Toby Taplin

EXECUTIVE IN CHARGE, VANCOUVER STUDIO

Toban Taplin is the Executive in Charge of Industrial Light & Magic’s Vancouver studio. A seasoned leader bringing over 20 years of industry experience to the role, Taplin is responsible for day-to-day operations and overseeing production. This includes leading operational strategy and facility growth, overseeing long-term resource capacity planning, and ensuring the seamless delivery of concurrent high-profile projects.

Taplin originally joined ILM to support the launch of the Vancouver studio’s TV division, soon advancing through key strategic positions and most recently serving as Director, Talent Management. In this capacity, he oversaw complex crewing strategies for the facility and spearheaded initiatives focused on artist retention, career development, and performance management. Before joining ILM, Taplin held management roles at DNEG, where he managed multiple departments, supported major studio restructures, and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the DNEG TV division in Vancouver.

His leadership is grounded in his foundational years as an active VFX Artist, Lead, and Supervisor, where he gained deep, hands-on experience across the creative pipeline on a diverse range of feature, episodic, and commercial projects.
