
Digital Motion Retouching
In 1993, Mark Leather, Les Dittert, Doug Smythe, and George Joblove received a Scientific and Engineering Award for the concept and development of the Digital Motion Picture Retouching System, used for removing visible rigging and dirt/damage artifacts from original motion picture imagery.
The system was used extensively on Robert Zemeckis’ Back the Future Part II among other films.
